We leave for Amsterdam today. And a couple days after exploring the city, we will be on our way to Africa—Tanzania and then Rwanda, to be more specific. For almost 3 weeks. I can’t believe this trip is finally here. Over a year ago, the first seeds of the trip were planted, and this little trip spawned a ripple effect of changes.
I have a tendency to exert control over many situations in my life, feeling most comfortable when I can predict outcomes. This trip threw a wrench in what I imagined would be happening in my life a year ago today—but life has a way of packaging gifts in the most unlikely boxes, and accepting them creates opportunities and paths unimaginable.
Resistance, I have learned, is like trying paddle your boat upstream. It’s a lost cause. Learning to calmly navigate the course ahead is most likely to get you to where you want to be. And sometimes, the end destination is even better than what you originally hoped.
So here’s to making the most of whatever life throws your way today. I am so grateful for changes, family, friends, planes, passports and opportunities.
